The VW ID. Buzz marks the return of the famous Volkswagen “Bus” in a new all-electric format that brings tremendous cargo space and retro styling—alongside a price tag to match.

Globally, the 2025 ID. Buzz is offered in short-wheelbase and long-wheelbase options, the latter growing in length by about 26 centimetres (10 inches). That’s the version we get here in Canada. Since the ID. Buzz is built on a dedicated EV platform, no space sacrifices were made to accommodate gas-powered drivelines. The result is a vehicle with a tremendously long wheelbase, very short overhangs, and industry-leading third-row legroom.

Look closely at the ID. Buzz from the side, and you can see the work of the new platform in action. Notice how close the wheels are to the physical corners of the vehicle? That’s one of the benefits of an all-electric platform. Not only does this configuration make for more stable handling and a more comfortable ride, but it can also give the vehicle superpowers when it comes to maximizing space. From that foundation, flexible seating and cargo-area innovations allow drivers to convert the interior of the ID. Buzz from lounge to bed to workshop to minivan in moments.

It’s functionality and innovation like this that helped the ID. Buzz recently secure the title of 2025 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year, from the North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year (NACTOY) Awards, which are widely regarded as one of the industry’s most prestigious.

What is the VW ID. Buzz’s driving range and price?

The VW ID. Buzz can go up to 377 kilometres per charge, and the standard heat pump system helps minimize range losses in extremes of temperature. All models run a 91 (total) kWh battery. The ID. Buzz will charge from 10% to 80% in around 26 minutes on a compatible fast charger, though most drivers will recharge at home or work.

The $80,622 ID. Buzz 1st Edition gets a single rear motor with 282 horsepower, and the higher range of the pair at 377 kilometres. The $86,122 ID. Buzz 1st Edition 4Motion adds a second electric motor to the front axle, bumping output to 335 horsepower and adding all-wheel drive (AWD). The drop in range to power the AWD system is marginal, falling to 372 kilometres.

Features of the 2025 VW ID. Buzz

The ID. Buzz has power sliding doors, a power tailgate, three interior colour schemes, and a rainbow of exterior colours for personalization.

In addition to Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE array of safety and assist features, front and rear park distance control (PDC), park assist plus with memory parking, dynamic road sign display, and light assist are all standard. There’s a head-up display and 12.9-inch infotainment display, as well as a 5.3-inch digital instrument cluster for a modern, high-tech flair on board.

How much interior space will the VW ID. Buzz have?

You’ll find no shortage of space on board for the dollar, either. With 4,120 litres of cargo space, the ID. Buzz roughly ties the GMC Suburban for maximum cargo space, and offers 20% more than the Ford Expedition Limited Max.

While the ID. Buzz’s 3,500-lb. towing capacity can’t match these SUV contenders, upfront pricing is similar, and long-term running costs will be significantly lower in the ID. Buzz. Though definitely a premium option where pricing is concerned, Canadians are readily spending big bucks for enormous, AWD-equipped family haulers, and the ID. Buzz gives them an interesting new all-electric choice to consider.
